Insurance

One of the most important things you can do before you go is to make sure that you have a good, fully comprehensive insurance policy in place.

There are many insurance products on the market - as a rough rule of thumb, you will get what you pay for. Don't expect cheap policies to provide comprehensive cover! Make sure you read the small print and check:

  • Cover will be in place for the entire trip.
  • Overseas medical costs are included. Daily hospital costs, medicines.
  • If you are planning to participate in Adventure Training or high risk sports, make sure your policy covers these activities.
  • If you plan to hire or ride motorbikes or bicycles check that your policy will cover you if you have an accident whilst participating in these activities.
  • Medical evacuation - does it include air ambulance fees ?
  • If you are injured will it cover the cost of 'Mum' travelling out to be with you. Will it cover 'Mum's accommodation and living expenses?
  • In the unlikely event that the worst should happen, does it include repatriation of mortal remains?
  • If making a claim, be up front and honest with yourself
  • Take your policy with you and / or keep a copy where you can get access to it if required.
  • Itemise expenise items
  • Keep valuables safe
  • Report any issues immediately
  • Send through a claim report
  • Make and retain notes and all correspondence with your insurer
